Mediation Fundamentals

AN INTRODUCTORY 3-DAY PROGRAM FOR MEDIATORS.

This course is designed for participants who wish to complete the basic knowledge and parcticum in a 3-day block.

Content of MEDIATION FUNDAMENTALS includes an introduction to mediation as a non-adversarial method of dispute resolution, to mediation theory and the process of mediation; to interests as the basis on which agreements are fashioned; to mediation skills and their use in the mediation process, and the necessary pre-mediation procedures and activities. This knowledge base is accompanied by exercises of increasing complexity, which demonstrate the skills required of the beginning mediator.

Advanced Mediation:
Thinking and Techniques

THE ADVANCED 3-DAY PROGRAM FOR MEDIATORS.

This course builds upon Mediation Fundamentals to provide a comprehensive program for the effective mediator.

Content of ADVANCED MEDIATION: THINKING AND TECHNIQUES provides a review of the Fundamentals, which forms the basis of advanced material on language and culture; about the place of power and fairness in ethical mediation; and impasse, its analysis and approaches to unlocking impasse through mediation. Participants work through case examples of increasing complexity to develop a more sophisticated, differentiated approach to each mediation.
