NEWS ARCHIVE 6/02/07 - L.A. SHOWCASE OF "CITIZEN" AND A FEW AWARDS AS WELL! "CITIZEN" will be showing in Los Angeles this month! NYU WEST COAST SHOWCASE Back in April, "Citizen" picked up a number of awards at the NYU First Run Film Festival, including the 2nd Prize King Award, the Wasserman Best Directing Award and a Screenwriting Craft Award. Check out the full press release here. Also my old zombie film, "Mom Vs. The Undead" just got featured in Youtube's entertainment section and its hit count has jumped from hundreds to thousands!
4/08/07 - FIRST RUN AND FIRST LOOK SCREENINGS OF "CITIZEN" Happy Easter, Passover or whatever pagan holiday you chose to celebrate. The film print of "Citizen" will be showing this month at two prestigious student film festivals: NYU FIRST RUN FILM FESTIVAL FIRST LOOK STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL I hope to see many of you at the NYU screening, and if you have any friends in Colorado...
2/19/07 - NEW ROMANTIC SHORT ONLINE, "CITIZEN" AT FILM FESTIVALS Happy belated Valentine's Day everyone! In celebration of the romantic season I am pleased to announce the online premiere of "Love Train 1 2 3"! You can check it out here or on Youtube. It is cleaned up a lot from the cut shown at my December screenings, and we owe a big thanks to Definitive Jux Records for letting us LEGALLY use RJD2's awesome "Ghostwriter" track. If you like the music in the short, please buy his albums. "Love Train 1 2 3" was made specifically for an internet audience, so please SPREAD THE LOVE: Share the link with all your friends, leave a rating or comment on Youtube and help get this thing viral! The film print of Citizen is almost finished and I have been pretty pleased with what I’ve seen so far. Nothing can quite compare to light projected through a 35mm piece of emulsion... We have been invited to the Riverside Film Festival in California in March and we’ll be screening at the NYU First Run Film Festival in April. I'll post the exact dates, times and locations when I get them. And so the festival journey begins... 1/7/07 - WEBSITE FULLY FUNCTIONAL Wow, I had forgotten how long it takes to actually design a website! Now most of the pages are actually up. The Films section has the trailer for "CITIZEN", the new 5-minute cut of "Mom Vs. The Undead" and my Reversals films. All other film content can be found in the Archive (including some high school and NYU stuff). Thanks to the limitless bandwidth of Youtube, I'll be trying to put ALL of my non-embarrassing work (and even a few embarrassing ones) online eventually. So, stay tuned... I'm back in New York now, but I'll probably still be going to be back and forth a lot with Toronto over the next few months, and then hopefully going around to film festivals all over the world with Citizen soon thereafter... Speaking of which... It's the last chance to make donations to CITIZEN and still get your name in the credits of the film print! Plus, we desparately need the money. But no pressure! Check out the Support section. 1/1/07 - NEW GRANTS, NEW WEBSITE, NEW LUST FOR LIFE! It's been a whirlwind of a 2006! I began the year with the production of my thesis film, CITIZEN, and it's ended with screenings of the final cut in New York, L.A. and Toronto. Thanks to everyone who came out. Big thanks to my dedicated cast and crew, all of whom donated their time and energy to this project when it was just a foolhardy idea. Some recent exciting news... Citizen received 2 post-production grants from NYU: The Malcolm Ross Memorial Film Production Award and the Clive Davis Award for Excellence in Music. Special thanks to my composer, Erik Desiderio, for that last one. Earlier in the year Citizen received a grant from The Caucus for Television Producers, Writers and Directors Foundation and put together with the NYU grants it looks like the film print is indeed a GO. So, Cast & Crew, double-check those credits, cuz there's no white-out for film emulsion... This is the new design for my much neglected website. I'm going to try and update it pretty regularly this year with news for Citizen and my other films as opposed to sending out annoying mass emails to everyone. I'm also putting together a portfolio for my on-set editing work, which allows other filmmakers to see their scenes cut together as their shot on location! Come on, I know you want to hire me... This news section will be the closest thing I've ever had to a blog... but I hate blogs, so I'm not going to call it that. For now, enjoy the films that are online. I'll be putting more up soon, and hopefully making some new ones too. If you like what you see here and want to help ensure I can keep making films, please visit the Support section. Happy New Year! -James
