James Darling is himself a dual-citizen of the United States and Canada. He was born and raised in Toronto but spent many summers in Arkansas with his grandmother and extended family. James attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he earned a BFA in Film/TV Production and a minor in Computer Science, and was the recipient Universal Studios Fellowship. He served as President of the Tisch Student Council his Junior year and is known to most new students as the star of “NYU And You”: a welcome video created for his address to the incoming freshman, which has been shown every year since his Presidency. James has worked professionally as a Production Assistant, Assistant Editor and Script Supervisor, but has been specializing recently in Video Playback, Digital Continuity and On-Set Editing, which he has done on over a dozen student productions and independent films. His previous short film, “Mom Vs. The Undead”, played at many horror and student film festivals, including Fantasia in Montreal and Starz! First Look in Denver. He was a recipient of the Sloan Foundation Screenwriting Award for his feature-length script, “In Motion”, based on the life of pioneering cinematographer, Eadweard Muybridge. At the 2006 NYU First Run Film Festival, he received a Producing Award for his work on “Rusty Forkblade”, an ambitious fantasy film about Vikings that recently played at Comic-Con in San Diego. His thesis film, “Citizen”, won the 2nd Prize, the Best Directing Award and a Screenwriting Craft Award at the 2007 NYU First Run Film Festival and also played at this year's Starz! First Look Festival. The film was supported by grants from The Caucus for Television Writers, Producers and Directors Foundation, The Clive Davis Foundation and The Northern Secondary School Alumni Association. James is represented by Joan Scott of Ampersand Management, and he is currently developing a number of film, television and new media projects. |
